Standing at the point  where the old new towns meet, this building was first a city gate, then a prison. Built mainly in the late 14th century, it was altered by Louis XI during the French occupation, when he added the present Notre-Dame Gate.

The highlight is the rooftop access (142 steps) which gives a magnificent view across the city.
4 Euros entry (accompanied kids free). Worth an hour of anyone’s time.

It is the home of the fascinating Catalan Museum of Roussillon Folk Arts Traditions, known as Casa Pairal.
