French Police to Fine Tourists for Taking Off Shirts

Perpignan has joined other inland cities in France banning Male tourists of walking around the city without their shirts on.

Locals in other seaside resort towns including Cannes and St. Tropez demanded the move after they were fed up of seeing Brits and other tourists displaying their “hairy chests & non hairless chest” in the streets.

Women wearing bikini tops in the streets could also face the fine if they failed to cover up when asked to by cops, authorities said.

The city hall have issued a reminder that it is illegal to bear your chest or wear unsuitable clothing in the town centre. Fines of 38€ will be imposed

These tough laws came into force after locals shocked complaint by a group of British rugby fans who took off their shirts while watching a match.

British rugby fans got a special mention by the french authorities “these brave Englishman who came to attend a rugby match they must be thinking that they were at the beach”.

In an statement Pierre Parrat, Perpignan security chief said “We’re not saying there has been a general moral decline, but some people have complained…”.

  2. Great Wines & Gastronomy: The regional wine is one of the oldest in the world. Vines are grown at sea level and high in the hills, from the Rhône to the Pyrénées. Well-known for its culinary specialities, the chefs rival each other to create the best dishes from local produce, to be served with the region’s excellent wines.
  3. Environment & Wilderness: beyond its lagoons and sandy beaches, Languedoc-Roussillon has an outstandingly beautiful countryside, formed by the elements over many thousands of years. The hinterland is full of exciting landmarks: gorges, valleys hollowed out of thick beds of limestone, rocky outcrops, basalt columns, peaks and summits.
  4. Leisure & Relaxation: whether you are with family or friends, Languedoc-Roussillon offers many different ways of relaxing and enjoying leisure activities: 300 days of sunshine per year, a water resource that creates astounding landscapes, mountains scarred by gorges, canyons, beaches and sand dunes, elevation from 0 to 3,000 meters and activities for beginners and experienced sportsmen alike.
  5. Heritage, traditions and culture: the rich variety of the region’s landscapes has strongly influenced the architecture, lifestyle and culture of its people. The name of the region itself underlines its dual identity: Occitan and Catalan. The countryside is unspoiled and the coastline protected; historic and cultural richness is also important, including several monuments recognized as UNESCO World Heritage.

Pyrénées-Orientales, first taste of the south (vineyards)

As you coming from Spain, here you will find the first vineyards of Mediterranean France which exceed sinuous coast roads those of the Eastern Pyrénées at Banyuls and Collioure. Inland, to the north-west, the last are on the border of the Corbières before the awe-inspiring sky-high ruins of the castles of Quéribus and Peyrepertuse. The autoroute A9 -E159 (La Languedocienne/La Catalane) between Montpellier, Perpignan and Barcelona is often closely bordered by vines.
Languedoc-Roussillon is the largest viticultural area of France, their improvements in methods and quality in the past twenty years or so have been amazing.

Roussillon has distinguished itself yet further. Though its vins doux naturels (sweet and semi-sweet) have long been worldfamous, in the past its dry wines could hardly compete with those of Languedoc at large. Now, “serious” reds, white and rosés are being made where “rustic” was perhaps the kindest description that came to mind, and its winemakers are especially proud of the fact. The flag of Roussillon alone is the one that many of them might prefer to fly.
